Never Retain Overpayments!

Your relationships with your builder/GC customers are paramount, and it is impossible to build a relationship absent trust. I’ve seen top-performing vendors fired by their builder customer simply because they retained funds that did not belong to them: i.e. overpayments, double-payments, contractual ‘payment schedule’ errors, etc. Rest assured; it is only a matter of time before the builder discovers their error, and when they do…if you retained the overpayments…it’s game over.

Don’t keep what isn’t yours; if you are overpaid, return it! No matter the dollar amount, it pales in comparison to the goodwill generated when alerting your builder customer to overpayments. While it may sting to return meaningful dollars, the long-term rewards of being genuinely trusted by your builders are far, far greater.
