Support The Homebuilding Industry

When entering the industry some 30 years ago, it was very commonplace when seeking to be put on a builder’s bid list to be asked if my company was a member of the local HBA. And it was usually made clear that they ‘tend to favor’ (wink, wink) subs and suppliers who are.
Builders, it is wholly appropriate to suggest HBA membership as a pre-requisite to working for your company. And vendors, you should not only be an HBA member, but you should participate in as many HBA events as possible in order to maximize your membership experience. Merely writing a dues check will not gain you contracts; designate someone from your company to get involved. HBA’s are the greatest example of ‘you get out what you put in.’
And if your company is strictly new construction (B2B) then you likely have a close-to-zero marketing budget…by all accounts, local HBA membership dues for associate members (non-builder) average a mere $100/month, and it includes membership to your state and national (NAHB) associations.
If your company’s revenues are directly related to homebuilding, then you should be supporting the industry as an HBA member. To my LinkedIn friends and colleagues, please repost and let’s gain some membership momentum!
